Should I stop investing in the stock market or pull out now that it is so volatile?

Ron answers this question from a place of experience and expertise.  In this video, you will hear his strategy for timing your investments.  He shares a faith-based perspective on the recent market lows as well as the advice of some other financial experts, Nick Murray and Warren Buffett.

As always, Ron’s encouragement to you is to go back to God’s word to restore your faith.  Take a moment to consider the following scriptures and meditate on their truth and their application.

Ecclesiastes 1:9 – 10
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.  Is there anything of which one can say ‘Look!  There is something new!’?  It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.”

Solomon, the author of Ecclesiastes, knew that history and markets and human nature repeat themselves.  We can take heart knowing that God knows the end from the beginning and that nothing that feels “new” to us is surprising or new to Him.

Matthew 6:19 – 24
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  The eye is the lamp of the body.  If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.  But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!  No one can serve two masters.  Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and Money.”

The question of when to sell and how to strategically invest is an important one.  As believers, we are called to decide our strategy for investing by faith and then follow that strategy faithfully.  By depositing our treasure in heaven by investing our time and treasure and talent in eternal things (His kingdom work here on earth), our perspective on the market will be buffered by the reality that our true treasure is in eternity and that God’s economy is a permanently safe investment.
