How do I teach my child the difference between saving and hoarding?

In this short video, Ron continues a Virtual Feedback Loop series on training children to manage money. This week, Ron talks about teaching a child the difference between saving and hoarding. He ties the habit of saving to pre-planning and the habit of hoarding to insecurity.

As always, Ron’s encouragement to you is to go back to God’s Word to restore your faith. Take a moment to consider the following Scriptures on training children and attitudes toward money, and meditate on their Truth and their application.

Proverbs 22:6 (NASB)
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 3:9-10 (ESV)
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.”

I Timothy 6:6-10 (ESV)
“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”

Matthew 15:8 (ESV)
“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”

Luke 12:34 (ESV)
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
